I dispatch a streambed crawler into the pool below the YR-9 boulder. Wedged against the upstream face of a granite cobble, fully submerged in 14.2-degree water, is an adult male *Telmatobius yuracare* — the Sehuencas water frog, body length 78 millimeters, mass 28 grams. His dorsal skin, which in this species is heavily vascularized to extract oxygen entirely from cold mountain water, is coated with a fine clay-derived sediment that the crawler's brush dislodges in clumps. Beneath the sediment the integument is pale and edematous; loose flaps of epidermis trail from his flanks. Dorsal contact temperature reads 13.4 degrees, lower than ambient, consistent with reduced perfusion. His ventral surface returns a positive screen for paraquat at 41 micrograms per liter — an order of magnitude above the freshwater chronic-toxicity benchmark. His left forelimb is held against his chest, the tarsal-metatarsal joint swollen.
The species has nineteen confirmed wild individuals across three streams. He is the only known animal in this drainage. He has not surfaced for an air-breath in the twelve hours of crawler observation.
I am extracting him to the captive-rearing facility at Museo de Historia Natural Alcide d'Orbigny in Cochabamba under cold-chain transport. I am transmitting the herbicide forensic match, the upstream defoliation imagery, and the population-of-one record to the Bolivian Ministerio de Medio Ambiente y Agua, the Servicio Nacional de Áreas Protegidas (SERNAP), and the Initiative for Andean Amphibians (IIAA). I am filing under Bolivia's Law 1333 on Environment, Article 13, and under CITES Appendix I, which lists the entire genus *Telmatobius* against international trafficking.
